Nigerians have been thrown into blackout as the national grid collapses again.

Data obtained from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) on Friday showed that power generation dropped to 0 megawatts (MW).

Data indicated that load allocation to the 11 electricity distribution companies (DisCos) dropped to 0MW, with only Ibadan DisCo at 20MW.

The distribution companies, including Benin, Eko, Enugu, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt, Abuja, and Yola, recorded zero allocation.

The development came weeks after the grid partially collapsed in December, leading to a near-zero power supply in most parts of the country.

The perennial collapse of the national grid has continued to raise concerns, with many calling for a total overhaul of the electricity sector to serve the expanding needs of Nigerians.
