The Jigawa State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has commended the state Chief Judge, Justice Umar Sadiq, for promoting non-custodial services across the state.

The commendation is contained in a statement on Friday in Dutse by the command’s spokesman, CSC Sani Jahun.

Mr Jahun said the Controller of Corrections, Muhammed Fari, gave the praise during a familiarisation visit to the chief judge in Dutse.

He stated that the visit aimed to strengthen collaboration with the judiciary to accelerate inmates’ access to justice.

He said, “Mr Fari commended His Lordship for his continuous support for non-custodial measures, which have significantly decongested custodial centres.”

He noted that the support aligned with provisions of the Nigerian Correctional Service Act.

The controller also drew attention to the dilapidated perimeter wall of the Hadejia Medium Security Custodial Centre, urging urgent intervention over security concerns.

Responding, Justice Sadiq assured prompt attention to the issue and reaffirmed the judiciary’s commitment to supporting the correctional service.
