The federal government has reiterated its commitment to road rehabilitation to boost the transportation of goods and services across the country.

The senior special assistant to President Bola Tinubu on community engagement (North-West), Abdullahi Tanko-Yakasai, stated this on Saturday while inaugurating some roads rehabilitated under the Emergency and Special Intervention Project in Katsina State.

He assured that the Tinubu administration would continue to accord road projects top priority in order to enhance socio-economic activities nationwide.

Also speaking, the director of information and public relations at the federal ministry of works, Mohammed Ahmed, said the government considered it necessary to identify and immediately rehabilitate critically damaged sections of federal roads.

“When the government came on board, it met 2,064 ongoing bridge and road projects all over the country.

“It identified certain critical section of the roads that need intervention so that they will at least be motorable.

“So, 260 of the roads needed emergency and special intervention, they were identified across the length and breadth of Nigeria,” he said.

The federal controller of works in the state, Muhammad Idris, such roads were called dead track due to their critical and bad conditions.

He said that following the intervention, motorists were now moving on the roads safely.

Other special intervention and emergency roads inaugurated included the Makurda section of the Katsina–Daura road, Yargamji on the Katsina–Dutsinma road, and Marabar Kankara on the Tasharboka–Kankara road, among others.

Residents of the communities expressed delight over the work and commended the federal government for the intervention.
