Guinness World Records (GWR) has officially confirmed and ratified Kenyan climate activist Truphena Muthoni’s 72-hour tree-hugging marathon as the longest.

“Truphena Muthoni from Kenya has set the record for longest marathon hugging a tree with an unbelievable total of 72 hours,” GWR said on Monday, posting a video of Ms Muthoni.

For GWR, “Hugging a tree shows that nature is not separate from us; it is family.”

The climate activist completed the tree-hugging exercise in Nyeri County on December 11, defying rain and sun for three days.

Though she is yet to speak on her GWR, Ms Muthoni, in one of her videos on X, had said, “Our collective efforts can revitalise the planet. Let’s turn the tide on environmental degradation by restoring our ecosystems. Act now for a greener tomorrow.”
