Abuja Council Elections: PCRC asks media to file positive reports

The Police Community Relations Committee has appealed to the media to ensure responsible and positive reporting that promotes peace, development, and national unity during the council elections in February.
Mogaji Olaniyi, the national chairman of PCRC, said this at an interactive meeting on security and peaceful FCT council elections scheduled for February 21.
“The PCRC will work with the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Nigerian police. The election will be free and fair. No form of thuggery will be tolerated. It will be a crime-free election.
Mr Olaniyi said that the meeting was to sensitise residents that PCRC would be on the ground to support the police commission in FCT. He said that there would be no hiding place for criminals in the FCT and advised them to desist from all forms of negative vices.
“We will use our instrument of office to fish criminals out because we are the closest to the public. There is no hiding place for any criminal. We will expose them,” he said.
Rufus Ebegba, FCT PCRC chairman, urged Nigerians, especially Abuja residents, to support the federal government’s security architecture under President Bola Tinubu.
Mr Ebegba called for support from the federal government’s security initiatives and urged participation in the upcoming local elections. He stated that security is crucial to economic growth and national development, and urged citizens to cooperate with security agencies by sharing information to help sustain peace in communities.
Mr Ebegba urged all political parties and candidates to conduct peaceful, responsible campaigns that respect the rule of law.
He described the President’s tax reforms and economic recovery agenda as necessary steps toward a stronger, more self-reliant Nigeria.
