A 51-year-old car dealer, Kemisola Sossa, on Thursday appeared before the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over an alleged N1 million fraud.

Mr Sossa, whose address was not provided, is facing three counts of fraud, theft, and breach of peace.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 30, 2025, in the Ajara area of Badagry.

Mr Ekpo said that the defendant collected the N1 million from the complainant, Omolara Nofiu, for the purchase of a Volkswagen Golf car, which he failed to deliver.

He said that the defendant converted the money to his personal use and behaved in a manner likely to breach the peace when asked to refund it.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 314, 287 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.

The chief magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail of N500,000 with two sureties in the like sum.

Mr Layeni ordered that one of the sureties must own a business and provide evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State government.

He adjourned the case until February 23 for mention.
