The Nasarawa State government has donated three dialysis machines and an Infectious Diseases Diagnostic and Research Development Centre to the Federal University Teaching Hospital (FUTH), Lafia.
Presenting the facilities to the management of FUTH on Thursday, the Commissioner for Health, Gaza Gwamna, said the intervention was meant to strengthen the institution for improved service delivery.
Mr Gwamna reiterated the state government’s commitment to the continuous provision of funds and infrastructure to the hospital to address the healthcare needs of the residents of the state and beyond.
He said the intervention aimed to address challenges patients face due to a lack of equipment at the newly established hospital.
The commissioner said that sometimes patients undergoing dialysis had to travel outside the state to access care at extra cost.
He pointed out that the state government would continue to support the hospital to enhance its mandate in healthcare delivery, research, and the training of medical personnel, among others.
The hospital’s chief medical director (CMD), Hassan Ikrama, received the tems and described the intervention as a major boost. He said that it would enable the hospital to double its efforts in providing healthcare to the people.
Mr Ikrama said the equipment, especially the dialysis machines, would go a long way to ease the hardship patients face in accessing care from neighbouring states.
“It is our desire, and we will do everything possible to ensure that this hospital ranks among the best teaching hospitals in the country.
“We will continue to train our staff in every department to get the best from them for the benefit of our patients.
“We will also prioritise the welfare and well-being of our staff through various initiatives for optimal performance,” the CMD said.
