A middle-aged man has been accused of killing his girlfriend in a hotel room in Ibafo.

Ogun police spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi said Rexlawson Johnson, 31, was arrested over the gruesome murder of his girlfriend, Patricia John.

Mr. Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested on Friday following a report by the manager of “MOLAYO HOTEL,” Ibafo.

The hotel staff said they discovered the dead body of a lodger in a room with bruises on her neck, suggesting that the deceased might have been strangled.

A police chief in Ibafo Jide Joshua led detectives to the scene and recovered the corpse, which was subsequently deposited at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu for postmortem.

“Preliminary investigation later revealed that the deceased checked into the hotel with a man who sneaked out of the hotel after killing the woman,” police said.

Mr. Oyeyemi said the suspect confessed to the crime upon interrogation. Peoples Gazette has not been able to independently corroborate the police’s claim, especially as officers have a history of torturing suspects in custody to extract dubious confession.

Mr. Oyeyemi said homicide detectives have taken over the case and would soon arraign the suspect.

Hoteliers in Ogun were advised to always keep a proper documentation of their customers in order to assist the police in future homicide investigations.
