Manchester City will face Arsenal in the 2026 final of the Carabao Cup after a 3-1 win over Newcastle United in the second leg of their two-legged semi-final tie on Wednesday night.

The result meant that City secured a 5-1 aggregate after a 2-0 victory against the defending champions in the first leg to book a showdown with Arsenal.

Arsenal defeated Chelsea 1-0 on Tuesday to earn a 4-2 win across both semi-final legs.

Omar Marmoush put City ahead in the seventh minute when an effort from the Egyptian forward was deflected over goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale by Daniel Burn.

Marmoush’s second goal in the 20th minute help to double the lead for Man City after he headed home a cross from Antoine Semenyo that Kieran Trippier had attempted to prevent from reaching the player.

Barely three minutes later, Tijjani Reijnders made it 3-0 for City after he arrived at Newcastle United’s box from a quick counter before side-footing a low shot past Ramsdale to hand Pep Guardiola’s side a huge advantage going into half-time.

Newcastle had the chance to reduce the deficit in the opening minute of the second half when substitute Yoane Wissa found himself running through on goal but the forward’s attempt to catch goalkeeper James Trafford, who was beyond his goalpost went wide of the target.

Still, Anthony Elanga managed to score a consolation goal for the Magpies in the 62nd minute when the former Manchester United winger fired home a low shot from inside the box.
