The Labour Party has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for adhering to the rule of law. The commendation was noted in a statement by the party on Thursday.

The reaction followed INEC’s recognition of Nenadi Usman as the interim national chairman and Darlington Nwokocha as the party’s national secretary.

INEC also invited the recognised leaders to its quarterly consultative meeting with political party leaders held on Thursday.

INEC acted in compliance with a federal high court judgment delivered on January 21, recognising and inviting the new party leadership.

The party described the invitation as proof of INEC’s commitment to truth and justice in Nigeria’s democratic process.

“This singular invitation further affirms and accords full legitimacy to the current leadership of the party. INEC’s leadership, under Prof Amupitan, has demonstrated steadfast adherence to the rule of law,” the Labour Party said.

It said the party was relieved that its protracted internal crisis had been resolved, describing the period as torturous.

“The Labour Party thanks its supporters, the media, and all lovers of democracy who stood by us throughout this trying period,” said the statement.

It reiterated the party’s commitment to democratic values, internal cohesion, and constructive engagement in advancing Nigeria’s democracy.
