Lagos police stole iPhone 16, $1,200, brutalised me, skit maker Ijoba Lande alleges

Nollywood actor and skit maker, Ganiyu Kehinde Morufu, aka Ijoba Lande, has accused the police in Lagos of stealing his iPhone and brutalising him shortly after returning from the United Kingdom.
Ijoba Lande made the allegation in a video on Instagram on Friday, claiming the incident occurred six days after he arrived in Nigeria.
“I came back from the UK six days ago and was attacked and beaten by police in Nigeria. They collected my iPhone 16 Pro Max and my brother’s $1,200. I nearly lost my life,” he wrote in the caption accompanying the video.
In the video posted online, the actor was seen bleeding from the eye and crying. Some individuals around him were seen pouring water on his face to calm him.
Voices heard in the background of the video repeatedly mentioned ‘Area J Police Station’, suggesting the alleged assault was linked to the facility.
The video also captured the actor at a location that appeared to be a police station, where he spoke with some individuals, suggesting he may have been attempting to lodge a formal complaint following the incident.
The video has since been deleted from his Instagram page.
Responding to the allegation, the Lagos State Police Command, through its spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, said in a statement on X that the officers involved had been identified and were under investigation.
“The officers involved have been identified and brought forward to the Command for investigation,” Ms Adebisi said, adding the hashtag #SayNoToImpunity.
She added, “At the moment, both the officers, the actor, and his friend are giving their statements. Further developments will be communicated accordingly.”
Ijoba Lande is known for his comedy skits and Nollywood appearances and is popular for his street-themed content. He has built a significant following on social media, where his content often centres on everyday Nigerian experiences.
