Lagos: Agege LG, urban renewal agency partner to improve infrastructure

The executive chairman of the Agege Local Government Area of Lagos, Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, has unveiled an urban renewal programme to improve infrastructure in the council area.
The intervention, in partnership with the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA), targets flood-prone streets, including Kadiri, Bode Tobun, Adesokan, and Disu Akogun, as well as other streets requiring immediate drainage upgrades, road rehabilitation, and environmental improvements.
Unveiling the programme on Friday in Lagos, Mr Obasa said the move reflects his administration’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure solutions to address flooding, deteriorating roads, and environmental degradation affecting residents.
According to him, the programme focuses on comprehensive drainage works, road rehabilitation, and environmental upgrades designed to enhance mobility and reduce flood risks across Agege communities.
“We are taking deliberate steps in collaboration with LASURA to improve drainage systems, rehabilitate roads, and enhance environmental conditions in flood-prone areas,” Mr Obasa said.
He said the renewal effort goes beyond temporary fixes but also aims to deliver durable infrastructure capable of withstanding environmental pressures and supporting long-term urban resilience.
Mr Obasa said that improved drainage systems would mitigate flooding, while rehabilitated roads would ease movement and stimulate economic activities within affected neighbourhoods.
“From road rehabilitation to drainage improvements, we are delivering the development these communities deserve.
“Better infrastructure enhances mobility and improves living conditions for residents,” he said.
The chairman noted that street selection followed technical assessments and residents’ feedback, reflecting inclusive development beyond major corridors into inner streets and residential areas.
According to him, the initiative aligns with Agege’s broader agenda of infrastructure resilience, environmental sustainability, and improved urban living standards.
