FRSC averts fuel tanker explosion in Kaduna

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Sunday averted a major disaster following a lone fuel tanker crash at NEPA Roundabout along Ahmadu Bello Way, Kaduna.
A statement by the Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO), Olusegun Ogungbemide, in Abuja said that the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday within the RS1.1 Kaduna Sector Command general operation area.
Mr Ogungbemide said that the sector command had received a distress call at about 7:15am indicating that a loaded fuel tanker had fallen at the busy roundabout.
“Following the alert, a rescue team from RS1.1 Kaduna Sector Command, led by Deputy Route Commander (DRC) I. Gunda, was immediately mobilised to the scene.
“On arrival, FRSC personnel promptly secured the area by closing all roads leading to the crashed tanker to prevent secondary crashes and a possible fire outbreak.
“The vorps also swiftly put traffic diversion measures in place to ensure free flow of vehicles and minimise congestion within the Kaduna metropolis.
“Personnel of the Federal Fire Service and the Nigerian Police Force were also deployed to the scene and are working collaboratively with the FRSC to ensure public safety.”
Mr Ogungbemide assured that efforts were ongoing to safely evacuate the fuel content and remove the tanker from the road to enable the restoration of normal traffic flow.
“No casualty was recorded as at the time of filing this report,” he said.
The FRSC spokesman commended road users for their cooperation and understanding during the emergency response.
Mr Ogungbemide urged motorists to remain calm, obey traffic directives and exercise patience while recovery operations continue.
He, however, reiterated the corps commitment to proactive emergency response, effective traffic management and the protection of lives and property on Nigerian roads.
