Oluwaseyi Adelakun, Counsellor, representing Ward H (Ago-Egba) in Lagos Mainland Local Government, has distributed learning materials to pupils in selected public primary schools in the area.

Mrs Adelakun said in Lagos on Tuesday that the initiative aims to support education and ease parents’ burden at the start of the new academic session.

The beneficiary schools include; African Church Primary School, Lagos Street; Salvation Army Primary School, Freeman; The Apostolic Primary School; St. Jude’s Primary School; Ago-Egba Primary School; Mount Carmel Primary School; Catholic Girls Primary School; and Ebute Metta Primary School.

Mrs Adelakun said the initiative was driven by her belief that education is the foundation of a progressive society and no child should be denied quality learning due to lack of basic school tools.

She stated, “Education is the bedrock of development, and supporting our children’s future is a responsibility we must all take seriously. These materials are meant to help our pupils learn comfortably and confidently.”

She said that the school essentials distributed included 1,200 exercise books, 600 pairs of socks, 800 pens, and 400 school bags.

According to her, the gesture is also aimed at creating a more enabling learning environment for pupils.

“By easing this burden on parents, we are giving our children the opportunity to focus on learning, growth, and academic excellence,” she said.

Mrs Adelakun reaffirmed her commitment to promoting education and youth development in Ward H, noting that the initiative aligns with the broader vision of the Lagos Mainland Local Government under the leadership of Jubril Emilagba.

“Through the leadership of our mayor, we will continue to invest in education and youth development. Together, we can build a brighter and more educated future for Ward H,” she said.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Head Teacher of African Church Primary School, Olufunke Adeyemi, commended the counsellor for prioritising education at the grassroots.

“This support will go a long way in motivating our pupils and encouraging regular attendance. We appreciate the councillor’s commitment to education,” Me Adeyemi said.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of one of the beneficiary schools, Ibrahim Lawal, described the intervention as timely and impactful.

Mr Lawal said, “Many parents are struggling with rising costs. This support will greatly help families and improve learning outcomes for our children.”
