The Nigerian Export Promotion Council, on Tuesday, organised a one-day training workshop on modern internet marketing strategies for Imo exporters.

The training, which took place in Owerri, was designed to ease access to the international market for the products.

Declaring the workshop open, the executive director of NEPC, Nonye Ayeni, said the training was even more necessary given the role of the internet in international trade.

Ms Ayeni urged exporters to flow with the tide“ and take advantage of digital marketing opportunities made available through the internet.

“With the growth of non-oil exports in Nigeria and existing products’ competition in the global market, it is important to maintain our pride of place, while seeking added trade opportunities,“ Ms Ayeni said.

Ms Ayeni advised exporters to take advantage of every opportunity for their growth and development, adding that the government would continue to encourage non-oil exports for economic emancipation.

A businessman, Joachim Nwogu, advised exporters to learn to be less emotional in business transactions. Mr Nwogu urged them to make their products visible to foreign buyers and communicate value in a global language by building trust without physical meetings.

“Among the websites where Nigerians now sell their products are nijazone.com and megawears.com.

“These two, and others, provide a platform for international trade from the comfort of one’s home, using the internet,“ said Mr Nwogu.

Also, a digital training expert, Ikenna Mbata, offered to train exporters on modern internet marketing techniques so they could receive enquiries, payments, and orders digitally.
