Anambra: Police arrest hotel owner, others, recover firearm

The police command in Anambra has arrested and detained three male suspects in connection with illegal possession of a firearm and involvement in illicit drug activities.
The command’s spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday in Awka, said that the suspects were arrested at a Motel in Uke, Idemili North LGA.
Mr Ikenga said that the operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, while acting on credible information, stormed the Motel in the late hours of Monday, where the criminals were arrested.
He said the suspects were 39, 26, and 18, respectively. He also said that during the search, one Jojef pump-action gun with breach number 21SA-0724, loaded with three live cartridges, was recovered at the scene.
According to him, during interrogation, one of the suspects, who is the owner of the motel, confessed to the crime.
”His confession led to the arrest of the other two suspects and the recovery of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, crystal methamphetamine, colos, and mkpuru-mmiri,” said the police.
Mr Ikenga reiterated the command’s commitment to sustaining ongoing operations against criminal elements.
He urged the public to continue to provide useful information to aid policing efforts. He assured that further developments would be communicated as the investigation progresses.
