Police arraign two for threatening to kill pastors, church members in Ibadan

The police on Friday dragged two church members before the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for allegedly threatening the lives of other church members.
The defendants, Ezekiel Akinniyi, 63, and Wale Oguntade, 37, are standing trial on charges bordering on conspiracy and threat to life.
They each, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp. Kehinde Olarotimi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence between 2022 and December 2025 at a CAC church on Sango-Poly Road, Ibadan.
Mr Olarotimi alleged that the defendants unlawfully threatened the lives of Pastor Michael Ajayi, Pastor Daramola, and other church members.
According to him, the defendants and others now at large locked the church gate while service was ongoing, with a promise of killing and unleashing terror on members.
He said the offences contravene the provisions of Sections 86 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
The magistrate, Adebola Adeola, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.
She adjourned the case until February 16 for a hearing.
