The crescent moon for the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan 2026 has been sighted in Saudi Arabia.

A Saudi-based media platform, Haramain, announced this in a report on Tuesday.

“The Crescent for the month of Ramadan 1447 was seen in Saudi Arabia today,” the platform stated. “Subsequently, tomorrow Wednesday, 18th February, 2026 is the 1st Ramadan 1447.”

The development came after it an announcement that the moon-sighting would take place in Hawtat Sudair and Tumair in Al-Majma’ah Governorate on Tuesday.

A member of Al Hareeq Observatory, Abdulaziz Al-Muainaa, said the sun would set at exactly 5.52pm, noting the weather conditions were suitable for sighting the Ramadan crescent.

Meanwhile, the commencement of the Ramadan fast in Nigeria is based on a declaration from the Sultan of Sokoto and Amirul Mumineen, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.
