NSSF hosts seminar to strengthen school sports leadership

The Nigeria School Sport Federation (NSSF), on Friday, held its annual administrative seminar, bringing together state coordinators for a one-day capacity-building workshop in Lagos.
Addressing participants, NSSF president, Olabisi Joseph, reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to empowering coordinators with modern tools and updated management practices.
“Sports keep evolving and we must ensure our coordinators are equipped with the latest tools for organising competitions and writing reports,” she said.
Mrs Joseph noted that the seminar, held consistently for seven years, had significantly improved the competence of school sports officers and administrators nationwide.
She explained that the theme, ‘Enhancing Capacity for Effective School Sports Leadership’, focused on aligning programmes with global best practices and efficient event management.
Delivering a paper, Macpherson Ogunsemore stressed the pivotal role of coordinators in identifying and nurturing grassroots talents across Nigerian schools.
Mr Ogunsemore, of the University of Lagos, urged collaboration with coaches and physical education teachers to develop athletes from grassroots to elite levels.
In another lecture, Oluyomi Oluwasanmi highlighted the importance of effective documentation in school sports administration.
Mr Oluwasanmi, director of School Sports at the Lagos State Sports Commission, said structured reporting aids planning and continuous improvement.
Participants commended the initiative, praising NSSF’s sustained efforts to strengthen school sports development with support from government and key stakeholders.
