About six aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress in Katsina have submitted petitions to the party’s appeal committee following the conduct of the ward and local government congresses.

The chairman of the committee, Sadiq Mohammed-Ali, disclosed this on Sunday in Katsina during a press conference convened to address concerns arising from the exercise.

According to him, the committee received petitions from some dissatisfied members and subsequently held meetings with them to deliberate on their complaints.

Out of the 361 wards and 34 local government areas in the state, Mr Mohammed-Ali noted that the number of petitions received was relatively low.

“I wish to inform you that out of the 361 wards and 34 local governments, we did not receive many calls or petitions regarding the exercise. Therefore, the percentage is very low,” he said.

He maintained that the party’s constitution and guidelines were largely adhered to in the conduct of the congresses across the state.

“I must state that, substantially, the laws of the party were complied with during the conduct of the congresses in Katsina,” he added.

Mr Mohammed-Ali further disclosed that the committee had concluded deliberations on all petitions related to the ward congresses.

“All petitions from the ward congresses have been treated and closed. Our report is ready. We have taken into consideration all responses received and discussed the matters with the relevant committees. Every issue is being taken seriously and will be resolved accordingly,” he assured.

Regarding the local government congress, he said the committee was still receiving petitions, urging aggrieved members to submit their complaints in writing.

“We are still receiving petitions concerning the local government congresses. Our secretariat remains at the APC office, and members can submit their petitions in writing. They may also forward them via the WhatsApp number earlier provided,” he said.

He commended the local organising committee for what he described as non-interference in the process, noting that the congresses were conducted in line with the APC constitution.

Yakubu Bashir-Bello, the chairman of the APC Katsina committee, said the congress was successful, as people turned out en masse to witness the process.

According to him, in various places, if not all, what they had was a consensus arrangement, as agreed by the government and all APC stakeholders in various wards and local governments.
