UniAbuja expels 28 students for forging results, using hard drugs

University of Abuja, now called Yakubu Gowon University, has announced the expulsion of 28 students involved in criminal activities, including result forgery, burglary and possession of hard drugs.
In a statement on Sunday, Habib Yakoob, the university’s spokesman, announced that the school’s senate had expelled 28 students.
“The senate of the University of Abuja has approved the expulsion of 28 students over various disciplinary offences,” the statement said.
The university’s authorities said the students expelled were found guilty of gross misconduct bordering on theft, burglary, forgery and possession of hard drugs.
“The affected students were found culpable of serious misconduct, including assault, conspiracy, burglary, theft, falsification of ‘O’ Level results uploaded on the university portal for admission, as well as possession and use of hard drugs,” the statement explained.
The university, during its 191st regular senate meeting, approved the expulsion of the students following a report from the school’s disciplinary committee.
The university was recently enmeshed in a financial scandal involving Hakeem Fawehinmi, the vice-chancellor of the University of Abuja, the dean of Students’ Affairs, Prof Simon Malang Kawe, and other senior officials.
They were fingered in a web of malfeasance involving the diversion of multibillion-naira funds from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund meant for indigent students in an exclusive report by Peoples Gazette.
