UCL: Atletico Madrid knock out Club Brugge 4-1 as Sorloth nets hat-trick

Atletico Madrid thrashed Club Brugge 4-1, beating the Belgian side 7-4 on aggregate, and secured their place in the Champions League Round of 16.
Diego Simeone and Atletico booked their ticket to the next round with a brilliant performance, knocking Club Brugge out of the campaign after a 3-3 draw in Brussels in the first leg of the playoffs.
The victory was crucial for Simeone’s side, who had shown inconsistent form in their previous Champions League outings. This win marked Atletico’s first victory in their last three European matches.
Atletico opened the scoring early through Alexander Sorloth, thanks to a simple long ball from Jan Oblak, which gave the hosts a crucial lead at the Metropolitano Stadium.
The momentum was with the hosts, but Club Brugge quickly responded, levelling the game with a header from Joel Ordenez.
After the break, the hosts were back in front with a brilliant goal from American international Johnny Cordoso, converting a right-footed volley that found the bottom corner of the net, marking his first goal for the club.
In the 76th minute, Sorloth put his name back on the score sheet, extending the lead, and minutes later, he completed his first-ever European competition hat trick from a brilliant cross by Matteo Ruggeri, sealing a 4-1 win.
The Spaniards now turn their focus to their next challenge, facing Real Oviedo on Saturday in an away trip. Meanwhile, Club Brugge also faces an away task as they travel to clash with Sporting Charleroi.
