The Nasarawa State Government on Wednesday distributed relief materials to displaced persons, who sought refuge in the state as a result of communal crisis in neighbouring Plateau.

The Director-General, Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Benjamin Akwash, supervised the distribution in Assakio, Lafia Local Government Area on Wednesday.

Speaking during  the event, Mr Akwash said the distribution of relief materials was in response to the influx of displaced persons from Plateau State, who have been forced to flee their homes due to insecurity.

According to him, the gesture is part of Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration efforts to cushion the hardship being faced by the victims during this difficult time.

Mr Akwash appealed to communities in the state to support the government in maintaining peace and security.

Also, Administrator, Lafia East Development Area,  Jeremiah Ishaleku, thanked the governor for the gesture and pledged to ensure fair distribution of the items

Mr Ishaleku noted that the people of the area have a cordial relationship with their neighbours in Plateau State, affirming why the displaced persons felt safe seeking refuge in the area.

He called on host communities to sustain the existing peace.

On their part, the village head of Jibel, Inusa Yarima, and some beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Mr Sule for the relief materials and appealed for collaboration between Nasarawa and Plateau states to improve security in the area.

The relief materials distributed included bags of rice, maize, millet and garri, cartons of seasoning and detergents amongst others.
