Police commissioner Ikioye Orutugu says combat and armed drills among newly trained personnel will ensure decisive, lawful responses to emerging threats in Anambra.

Mr Orutugu said this in a statement on Wednesday, highlighting the training’s strategic importance.

He inaugurated 100 newly trained constables selected for combat and armed drills at the Police College, Oji River, as part of ongoing security enhancement efforts.

“Effective policing requires not only numerical strength but also discipline, tactical competence, emotional intelligence, and respect for the rule of law,” Mr Orutugu said.

He urged constables to take their training seriously, emphasising the need for physical fitness, mental alertness, professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights.

Mr Orutugu stressed that combat and armed drills were vital in preparing officers to respond decisively and lawfully to evolving security threats.

He reassured residents of the command’s commitment to community safety, noting that well-trained personnel will strengthen operations against violent crime, kidnapping, and cultism.

According to him, the training aligns with the Nigeria Police Force’s vision to enhance capacity building, professionalism, and operational effectiveness.

“This development marks another strategic step in reinforcing the command’s manpower and sustaining proactive policing to protect lives and property across Anambra,” Mr Orutugu said.
