Ibadan man arraigned for allegedly impersonating U.S. lady on Facebook

The police on Thursday arraigned a 31-year-old man, Mufutau Ibrahim, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, over alleged impersonation on Facebook.
Ibrahim, whose address was not provided, was charged with impersonation, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Femi Omilana, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 25 at about 2.30 p.m. at the Challenge area of Ibadan.
Mr Omilana alleged that Ibrahim, with intent to defraud, represented himself on Facebook as a white woman, Jane Brooks, purportedly living in the United States.
He said the offence contravened Section 484 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Adebola Adeola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum.
She ruled that one of the sureties must be a parent of the defendant and adjourned the case until April 14 for mention.
