Mrs Asekhauno attributed the crash to speeding and loss of control.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has said four women lost their lives in a road crash involving four vehicles at Agulu Lake on the Nanka-Agulu Road in the Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State on Friday.

The FRSC Sector Commander in Anambra State, Bridget Asekhauno, confirmed the accident to journalists on Saturday in Awka.

Mrs Asekhauno attributed the crash to speeding and loss of control.

She said the fatal accident involved a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number HAL676YG, a shuttle bus with registration number UKP274YA, a truck and a Toyota Hilux, both without registration numbers.

She stated, “There were no eyewitnesses to the crash as all the drivers fled the scene. However, observations by the FRSC rescue team from the Nanka outpost indicated that the bus was descending the hill at high speed, lost control and rammed into three other vehicles.”

According to her, a total of 19 persons were involved in the crash, comprising six male adults, 10 female adults and three male children.

“The crash claimed the lives of four women, while five others sustained injuries,” she added.

The sector commander said the injured victims were taken to St. Joseph Hospital, Adazi, for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the hospital morgue.

She said an alternative route was created to ease traffic flow in the area.

Mrs Asekhauno commiserated with the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

She urged motorists to prioritise safety and drive cautiously to prevent avoidable crashes.

“Drive safely to stay alive; safety is everyone’s responsibility,” she said.
