Lagos govt reaffirms commitment to youth leadership development

The Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development has reaffirmed its commitment to intentional leadership development for young people
Its commissioner, Mobolaji Ogunlende, spoke on Thursday at the Ibile Youth Academy 2025/2026 One-Day Leadership Summit in Alausa, Ikeja.
Mr Ogunlende said youth development remained central to the THEMES Plus Development Agenda of the Lagos State Government.
“Leadership must be nurtured deliberately, sustained institutionally, and transferred responsibly to ensure continuity, impact and sustainable governance,” he said.
He commended the 2026 cohort of the IBILE Youth Academy for setting a new standard of excellence.
According to him, they emerged through a rigorous, highly competitive selection process that reflects passion, performance, and progress.
Mr Ogunlende said the academy, established in 2017, had grown into a formidable platform for grooming young leaders across Lagos’ five divisions.
“Since its establishment, the academy has shaped leaders equipped with the skills, knowledge and values to drive sustainable development in the state,” he added.
He expressed confidence that participants would apply their training to become effective leaders and change agents in their communities.
A former commissioner in the ministry, Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf, urged youths, particularly in Lagos, to maximise opportunities and prepare intentionally for the future.
Ms Akinbile-Yusuf, the academy’s pioneer commissioner, encouraged them to position themselves strategically for growth and success.
“This is the time to prepare yourself; learn new skills, work hard and discover your true potential.
“When you are adequately prepared, you will be ready to seize opportunities and make informed decisions about your future.
“The training and exposure you received at the IBILE Youth Academy have equipped you with valuable skills. Go out, represent the academy proudly, and contribute your very best to the world,” she said.
