Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara says his administration has raised the bar of governance through unprecedented investments in infrastructure, revenue reforms, education, healthcare and social protection.

Mr Abdulrazaq said this on Tuesday while addressing party faithful at the All Progressives Congress (APC) state congress in Ilorin.

He said the government had modernised infrastructure across sectors, particularly roads, schools and hospitals.

The governor said his successor would be expected to consolidate the achievements.

Mr Abdulrazaq reiterated that he was not interested in building a political dynasty but focused on leaving enduring legacies.

“We are in the era of politics. If I may say so myself, I think we have done very well, exceedingly well.

“To the extent that I will say over six years of our tenure has seen greater investments in infrastructure and other critical sectors than what we met on ground.

“But we will not be complacent. We need to work harder and build on what we have achieved so far,” he said.

Mr Abdulrazaq urged aspirants ahead of the party primaries to remain calm and ensure peaceful conduct, describing the period as a challenging but necessary phase in party politics.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as achievements across sectors.

According to him, the APC-led federal government has a roadmap for national development.

“Key economic indicators such as inflation, exchange rate and gross domestic product are showing signs of improvement,” the governor said.

He said Kwara had been repositioned under his administration, adding that opposition parties would find it difficult to campaign and fault his record in infrastructure, healthcare and education.

Mr Abduirazaq maintained that his administration was committed to building a legacy of sustainable development and expressed hope that his successor would surpass his achievements.

Earlier, the state APC chairman, Sunday Fagbemi, said the administration had constructed 586 kilometres of roads and recruited 8,912 teachers.

He described both as the highest by any government in the state since 1999.
Fagbemi added that the state had also recorded milestones in other sectors, including child health indices.

The congress returned Fagbemi and other members of the state executive committee to their positions, which party leaders described as a vote of confidence in their stewardship.

The chairman of the state congress committee, Alkali Alibe, said the affirmation of the leadership was in line with the party’s constitution.
