YABATECH student shot at WAEC bus stop dies
The Lagos State police command has said that Balogun Sultan Owolabi, one of two students of Yaba College of Technology who sustained gunshot wounds on Tuesday, has been confirmed dead by doctors.
Responding to an inquiry by Peoples Gazette on Wednesday about the incident, the command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, said in a brief WhatsApp message that the victim was shot at WAEC Bus Stop, Ebute Metta, and was rushed to the 68 Military Hospital, Yaba, where he was confirmed dead.
Mrs Abimbola wrote, “The Command confirms a shooting incident that occurred at WAEC Bus Stop, Ebute Metta, on 3rd March 2026. Two victims were rushed to the 68 Military Hospital for treatment. One of them, Balogun Sultan Owolabi, a student of Yaba College of Technology, was later confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.”
The command stated that an investigation is ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the shooting and apprehend those responsible.
Asked who fired the gunshot, the command’s spokesperson simply replied, “Investigation is ongoing. Further update will be made public.”
