Vietnam’s railway operator raises charges amid fuel price surge
Vietnam’s Railway Transport Joint Stock Company on Monday raised passenger and freight charges as rising fuel prices linked to tensions in the Middle East are driving up operating costs.
According to the Vietnam News Agency, passenger fares were raised by 10 per cent, while freight rates increased by 15 per cent.
A company representative said the adjustment was made after careful consideration to help offset rising fuel costs while maintaining service quality and ensuring safe and stable railway operations.
The price hike came amid surging fuel costs in Vietnam.
The retail price of diesel climbed to 30,230 Vietnamese dong (about $1.21) per litre as of 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, according to Vietnam National Petroleum Group.
The price represents a sharp 31.26 per cent increase from the level announced two days earlier, reflecting volatility in global energy markets amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
