The U.S. authorities have raised the alarm over terrorist threats against its facilities and schools in Nigeria.

In a security alert on its website on Monday, the U.S. Mission in Abuja informed “U.S. citizens of a possible terrorist threat against U.S. facilities and U.S. affiliated schools in Nigeria.”

The security alert also stated that it “recommends that U.S. citizens take additional precautions when travelling to the U.S. Embassy, the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, and U.S. affiliated schools, to include varying times and routes.”

It added, “Increasing awareness of your surroundings, avoiding predictable routines, and reviewing general security precautions with your family can help reduce your risk.”

Against this backdrop, U.S. citizens in Nigeria are urged to “be aware of your surroundings, keep a low profile, review personal security plans, vary regular routes and keep cell phone charged in case of emergency.”

This comes amid the lingering U.S.-Israel war against Iran.

Since the war started on February 28, the U.S. Embassy in Abuja has suspended visa appointments and other activities at its consulate over fears that pro-Khamenei protesters could turn violent over the killing of the former Supreme Leader of Iran in an attack by U.S. and Israeli forces.
