Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu called on the people of Iran on Tuesday to bring about political change in their country.

He said it ultimately depended on the Iranian population to end the rule of the current leadership in Tehran.

Speaking during a meeting with representatives of Israel’s health ministry, Mr Netanyahu said the government’s broader aim is to see Iranians free themselves from what he described as oppressive rule.

“Our goal is to bring the Iranian people to throw off the yoke of tyranny, but ultimately it depends on them,” Mr Netanyahu said, according to a statement from his office.

Referring to the Iranian leadership, he added, “There is no doubt that we are breaking their bones with the measures taken so far.”

Mr Netanyahu has previously made similar remarks about political change in Iran, urging citizens to overthrow the country’s ruling establishment.

His comments came amid heightened tensions between Israel and Iran and ongoing regional security concerns.
