Many Germans are sticking to their travel plans even with the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, according to a survey released on Wednesday.

The survey was conducted by the polling institute YouGov for the German news agency Deutsche Presse-Agentur.

The survey of about 1,750 adults conducted in March found that 54 per cent said international crises or conflicts currently have no impact on their travel planning.

However, some travellers are reconsidering their plans.

About 10 per cent of respondents said they intend to change their vacation plans because of global conflicts, while seven per cent said trips they had already booked have become uncertain.

Another four per cent reported cancelling or postponing previously booked travel.

Safety considerations remain a key factor when choosing destinations.

The poll showed that 58 per cent of respondents strongly consider a country’s political stability when planning trips, while 27 per cent take it into account to some extent.

Only 10 per cent said political stability plays no role in their travel decisions.

The survey found that 17 per cent of respondents had previously changed or cancelled a trip due to international crises or safety concerns, compared with 80 per cent who said they had never done so.

Amid geopolitical tensions, the travel industry did not expect a lasting decline in demand.

Tourism is a highly resilient sector, said Albin Loidl, president of the German Travel Association.

He noted that once stability returns, so does people’s desire to travel.

According to Mr Loidl, geopolitical conflicts may temporarily slow travel, but long-term interest remains strong, with travellers more likely to switch destinations than to cancel trips altogether.
