The federal government has promised to review the current revenue allocation sharing formula to the three tiers of government that has been in place since 1992.

Modu Aji, a commissioner at the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), stated this at an interactive session with officials of Yobe state government on Friday in Damaturu.

Mr Aji represents Yobe at the RMAFC.

According to Mr Aji, “The current revenue allocation formula stands at 52.68 per cent for the federal government, that is including special funds for the FCT; ecological, stabilisation and natural resources development funds.

You then have 26.72 per cent for the states and 20.6 per cent for Local Government Areas.

“Several attempts made to review the formula were unsuccessful due to change of governments, absence of the National Assembly, among others,” he said.

In his remarks, Baba Wali, the Secretary to the State Government, commended the federal government’s commitment and determination to conduct the review, stating that the current allocation sharing formula favoured the federal government more than the states.

Requesting an increase in the statutory allocations to both the state and LGAs, Mr Wali said with the review, Yobe state would be well-positioned to tackle insecurity and ensure payment of the N30,000 national minimum wage, among others.
