Plateau begins 17-kilometre road construction in Jos

The Plateau State Government on Friday commenced the construction of a 17-kilometre road at Haske Quarters, Jos North Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking at the event, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who said that the road had been abandoned for long, described the move as timely.
The governor, who promised more infrastructural development in the state, pledged to meet the yearnings and aspirations of Plateau residents.
He promised to initiate projects, policies and programmes that would not only unite the people, but place them on the path of economic prosperity.
“Sometimes it is the lack of infrastructure that divides us and by the time this road is completed, I’m sure nobody will know the boundary between Jos East, Jos North and Jos South LGAs.
“It’s not just about constructing a road, it is about uniting the people; it is about uplifting the people and making life better for them. It is also about making sure that businesses within this area also begin to thrive.
“So, I look forward not only to the day that this road will be completed, but that if God helps us, we’ll even provide streetlights on them,” Mr Mutfwang said.
The governor, however, called on residents of the state to support and pray for his administration to succeed.
He also called on the contractor to deliver the project within specification, insisting that his administration would not compromise standards.
Earlier, the state Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Silvanus Dongtoe, thanked the governor for approving the construction of the road.
He said that the road, when completed would connect communities in Jos North, Jos South and Jos East LGAs and open up new ones.
Mr Dongtoe, who said that the road would be constructed by JECON construction Nigeria Ltd., added that it would improve livelihoods within the area.
Residents of the area turned out in their numbers to welcome the governor to the community.
