Man travelling with AK-47 magazines arrested in Nasarawa

The police in Nasarawa on Saturday arrested a man in possession of 53 Ak-47 magazines and 250 live round ammunition at Akwanga local government area of the state.
Rahman Nansel, Nasarawa State police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest to Peoples Gazette on Saturday, adding that the police was still investigating the suspect’s intended destination.
“We cannot confirm if he was travelling to Jos with the ammunition but he was arrested and investigation is ongoing on his destination,” Mr Nansel told The Gazette on phone.
He, however, identified the arrested person as Likita Abubakar in a statement later sent to The Gazette.
“On 21/8/2021 at about 0900hrs, sequel to information received which indicated that a suspected criminal who has been on the wanted list of the Nasarawa State Police Command for offences ranging from Armed robbery to Kidnapping was sighted at Alushi Junction, Akwanga LGA, Nasarawa State, a detachment of Police operatives attached to Akwanga Division were immediately deployed to the area.
“Consequently, one Likita Abubakar ‘M’ 35 years was arrested; upon diligent and systematic search, 53 empty magazines, 260 rounds of live ammunition, one motorcycle and cash sum of #38,500 was recovered from him as exhibits,” the statement reads in part.
