Forest thrash Spurs 3-0, Aston Villa bounce back to top four, Sunderland beat Newcastle
Nottingham Forest beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 to continue their poor run, Aston Villa bounced back to enter the Champions League spots with a 2-0 win over West Ham, while Newcastle suffered a 2-1 loss to Sunderland.
Tottenham Hotspur continue 2026 with zero wins, recording their seventh league defeat and sitting just one point above the relegation zone after a 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest at home.
The visitors scored first before half-time with a goal from Brazilian attacker Igor Jesus, assisted by Neco Williams. In the 62nd minute, Forest extended their lead with another goal from Morgan Gibbs-White, thanks to a quick pass from Hudson-Odoi.
Taiwo Awoniyi sealed the three points with a third goal, the Nigerian international netting his second of the season following another effort involving Neco Williams.
The victory sends Forest further away from the relegation zone, while for Spurs, Igor Tudor’s side head into the international break at their lowest point in history, with a poor run in both the Champions League and the Premier League.
Aston Villa boosted their top-four hopes with a 2-0 win against bottom side West Ham to regain their confidence.
The hosts opened the scoresheet with a brilliant goal from John McGinn, a curled effort assisted by Jadon Sancho. Ollie Watkins scored the second goal of the game, ending his nine-game goal drought and boosting the striker’s confidence.
The victory completes Villa’s double over West Ham for the first time since the 2010–11 season, as Unai Emery’s side returns to Champions League contention.
Sunderland shocked Eddie Howe’s Newcastle with a late 2-1 winner.
The Magpies opened the scoring early, with a goal in the 10th minute from Anthony Gordon, assisted by Nick Woltemade.
The intense Tyne-Wear derby saw Sunderland get back into the game after the interval with a solo goal from Chemsdine Talbi. Newcastle responded, but a goal in the 75th minute was ruled out for offside.
In stoppage time, Brian Brobbey scored the late winner for his side, netting his sixth goal of the season.
The victory puts Sunderland in 11th place in the league standings, two points ahead of Newcastle.
