The police on Tuesday dragged a 56-year-old man, Olusegun Akinbi, before the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for stealing a Toyota Sienna car valued at N5.2 million.

The defendant is on trial for stealing and causing a breach of the peace. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on September 24 at Kiki Shopping Plaza, located at the Badagry roundabout in Lagos.

Mr Ekpo alleged that the defendant entered the car stand of a complainant, Lokokanon Stephen, with the intent to steal.
“The defendant stole one unregistered Toyota Sienna vehicle with chassis number 5PDZK23C9S186939 valued at N5.2 million belonging to the complainant.

“The defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by causing pandemonium.

“He was later arrested and handed over to the police for prosecution,” he said.

The chief magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until May 13 for mention.
