Man, 25, in court over alleged burglary, stealing of items worth ₦25 million

The police on Tuesday, charged a 25-year-old woman, Precious Monday, before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Ogba, over allegations bordering on conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
The defendant, whose address was not disclosed, is standing trial on a three-count charge bordering on the offences.
She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 21, at Beach Resort Estate in Lekki, alongside others now at large.
According to the charge, the defendant allegedly conspired with others to break into the residence of one Ayotomiwa Ekwe, with intent to commit a felony, contrary to the provisions of sections 307 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The prosecution alleged that the defendant stole items worth ₦25 million, including clothing, shoes, a gold chain and a laptop, contrary to the provisions of section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
The magistrate L.A. Owolabi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The court adjourned the case until April 15, for hearing.
The offence of conspiracy attracts a penalty of up to seven years imprisonment, while burglary is considered a serious offence which may attract up to a term of life imprisonment upon conviction.
Meanwhile, the offence of stealing attracts a penalty of three years imprisonment.
