Mr Okoro-Emegha noted that the party had not offered an automatic ticket to any individual, as it adhered strictly to its constitution.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi says it supports the re-election of the state’s national officers in the March 25 and 28 zonal and national congresses, respectively.

The APC state chairman, Stanley Okoro–Emegha, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abakaliki while addressing journalists.

The chairman said the party was satisfied with its performance in office.

Mr Okoro–Emegha said the party would throw its full weight behind the re-election of Itapha Azuobu as the South–East Zonal secretary and Mathew Uguru as the national treasurer.

“The zoning formula adopted by our party’s national leadership reaffirmed the positions being occupied by the state at both the zonal and national levels.

“Governor Francis Nwifuru, as the leader of the party in the state, has expressed confidence in the capacity of the individuals occupying those positions.

“The position of the party in Ebonyi is therefore clear that both officers would be re-elected at the congresses,” he said.

The chairman attributed the influx of opposition members into the party to the governor’s sterling leadership qualities.

“We recently received the former director-general of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Campaign Council in the 2023 general elections, Chief Austin Edeze.

“We also received a former Ebonyi State House of Assembly member, Mrs Franca Okpo. More opposition leaders in Ebonyi will join us, as it is better that the state operates under one platform,” he said.

Mr Okoro-Emegha noted that the party had not offered an automatic ticket to any individual, as it adhered strictly to its constitution.

“The party adopts the consensus mode of electing candidates, but such must be demonstrated on the field. Party faithful must still demonstrate their democratic choices on the field to ensure that credible candidates represent it at all times.

“The APC is a stickler to due process, and that is why opposition members are joining it in droves,” Mr Okoro–Emegha said.
