Police rescue five robbery victims, arrest three suspects in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has rescued five passengers who were taken during an armed robbery between Ita-Oba and Oboto along Ondo Road on Thursday.
DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command’s spokesperson, who made this known in a statement on Thursday, said the incident happened at about 5:20 p.m.
Mr Jimoh explained that the passengers were in a commercial vehicle en route from Ondo to Akure when they were intercepted and taken into the bush by the armed robbers, where their belongings were obtained.
“Following a swift response to the distress call, the command’s operatives, alongside Ondo State Security Network, Amotekun Corps, carried out a targeted operation, which led to the successful rescue of the victims from the bush, unharmed.
“Meanwhile, three suspects have been apprehended in connection with the robbery, and they are identified as Akinyemi Olamilekan ‘m’; Mutaka Ali ‘m’ and Atiku Abubakar ‘m’.
“The suspects have made useful statements that are aiding the investigation and will be charged to court upon conclusion,” he said.
Mr Jimoh reassured the public of the command’s continuous commitment to the safety and security of lives and property along highways and major commercial routes.
According to him, the routine monitoring, strategic patrols, and intelligence-led operations within the area of responsibility remain ongoing to prevent such criminal activities and ensure a rapid response to emergencies.
The police spokesperson urged members of the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities to the nearest police station, and provide timely, credible, and actionable information that may aid law enforcement in safeguarding the community.
“The police command in Ondo State commends the professionalism and prompt response of officers involved in the operation.
“This prompt response emphasises that such proactive measures reflect the command’s dedication to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all residents and commuters in the state,” Mr Jimoh said.
