The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims that of endorsing an aspirant for the forthcoming governorship election in Rivers State.

Mr Wike, who stated this while addressing Rivers State delegates and supporters during the PDP national convention in Abuja, warned supporters against being misled regarding the state governorship seat.

“I have been hearing people say that I have endorsed them; it’s their business. I have not promised anybody anything. Whatever you read on social media, please know that I’m not there,” the minister stated.

Mr Wike, however, clarified that the only commitment he made was to support President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election.

“The only commitment I have made on behalf of myself and my family is that I am going to support Bola Ahmed Tinubu. If you know I have spoken to you and you have not spoken to me, don’t say I have endorsed you,” he added.

Noting the decision regarding the governorship race in the state would be taken collectively with party leaders at the appropriate time, the ex-governor cautioned prospective aspirants and supporters against against political pressure, inducements, and external influence.

“At the appropriate time, we will meet, look at ourselves eyeball to eyeball, and tell ourselves the truth,” he stated. “No amount of intimidation or blackmail will make me make the mistake I made again.”

Mr Wike’s clarification came amid renewed feud with his political godson and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, over control of the state. I

In January, the minister boasted that no political group could dislodge his political camp in the state.

He also stated he was done with Mr Fubara and accused him of betrayal, vowing to handpick a loyal person to replace the governor in 2027.
