FCT-IRS extends deadline for filing annual tax returns to April 30

The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service has extended the deadline for the filing of individual annual income tax returns from March 31 to April 30.
In a statement on Tuesday, the FCT-IRS said the extension was to give taxpayers more time to complete and submit accurate returns.
“The statutory deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns remains March 31 every year, but this extension is intended to provide taxpayers with additional time to complete and submit accurate returns and improve overall compliance within the Federal Capital Territory,” it said.
It urged individuals to file their annual income tax returns, describing tax payments as a civic duty that supports national growth.
The agency noted that voluntary compliance “should be embraced as a routine civic responsibility and a vital contribution” to national development.
The FCT-IRS also maintained that filing must be done through its official online tax portal, which is the approved method for submitting annual returns, describing it as secure and user-friendly.
“Electronic filing through the FCT-IRS tax portal remains the approved method for submitting annual returns as the Service continues to strengthen its digital tax administration system,” said the agency.
It stated that details such as National Identification Number, phone numbers, and addresses must be correctly provided to avoid delays.
It urged Abuja residents seeking further information to visit any FCT-IRS office or contact its official communication channels.
