Alleged Theft: Court grants Emir Sanusi wife’s driver, two others N60 million bail

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kano on Wednesday, admitted Suleiman Yakubu, a driver attached to the wife of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, to N60 million bail over alleged jewellery theft.
Mr Yakubu, alongside Messrs Idris Uba- Musa, and Abdullahi Hassan, whose addresses and ages were not provided by the court are charged with conspiracy, theft, and receiving stolen property.
The prosecutor, Abubakar Ibrahim, told the court that Mr Yakubu who works as a driver to the emir’s first wife (Sadiya Ado-Bayero), committed the offence on March 16, in Kano.
He alleged that the first defendant trespassed into her room and stole jewellery, a cash sum of N500,000, and a Samsung phone, all valued at N60 million.
The first defendant, Mr Yakubu, pleaded guilty to the charge, while the second and third defendants pleaded not guilty.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes the provisions of sections 97, 280 and 317 of the Penal Code.
The defence counsel Mr A.A. Abdullahi, made a bail application on behalf of his clients.
Chief Magistrate, Hadiza Abdurahman, granted bail in the sum of N10 million each with two reliable surties.
She said one of the surety must be the defendant’s father or brother, while the second surety must be a civil servant not below grade level 15.
The judge adjourned the matter until April 13 for hearing.
