The Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation has strongly condemned the renewed wave of violence and killings in Plateau, describing the attacks as senseless and unacceptable.

The foundation, in a statement signed by its director-general, Abubakar Gambo-Umar, expressed deep sadness and shock over the incidents, noting that innocent lives continued to be lost and communities were subjected to pain and suffering.

It called on security agencies to urgently apprehend and prosecute all those responsible for the attacks, stressing that victims and their families deserved justice, compensation, and adequate support.

The foundation also urged relevant authorities to take decisive steps to restore peace, order, and harmony across the state, and to prioritise the protection of innocent travellers and residents.

According to the statement, attacks and reprisals must cease immediately, as justice remained a critical factor for achieving sustainable peace.

It further appealed to key stakeholders in the state, including youth leaders, religious and community leaders, and political actors, to unite to address the persistent crisis.

The foundation emphasised the Plateau government’s need to prioritise peacebuilding and conflict resolution to ensure lasting stability.

It also recommended establishing a truth and reconciliation commission to address grievances and tackle the root causes of the recurring conflicts.

It maintained that only sincere dialogue and collective action would bring an end to the violence in the state.
