A former chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Lagos branch, Yemi Akangbe, on Friday urged lawyers to reflect on the values of service and humility as they discharge their duties.

Mr Akangbe gave the advice in a Good Friday message to the legal community.

He admonished them to emulate Jesus Christ, who made sacrifices for mankind.

“On this solemn occasion of Good Friday, I join Christians across Nigeria and around the world in reflecting on the profound sacrifice, love and redemption that this day represents.

“As members of the legal profession, it is a reminder of our shared duty to uphold justice, defend the rule of law and serve humanity with integrity and courage.

“This season calls us to embrace the values of compassion, humility and service to others. As we reflect today, may we find renewed strength, hope and purpose in our calling,” he said.

The former chairman prayed that the lessons of Good Friday would guide Nigerian lawyers toward a more just, united and compassionate bar association.

Also, a former chairman of the Young Lawyers Forum of the NBA, Oaikhena Osagie, said that Good Friday should be a time of sober reflection for lawyers, especially as they undertake the delicate task of defending humanity.

“For many of us, it is a time to reflect on redemption and the profound sufferings at the cross of Calvary and also a reminder of the power of endurance.

“To my fellow legal practitioners, our profession demands that we face adversity in difficult times.

“Let us, therefore, use this period of reflection to renew our commitment to standing up for the defenceless and being a voice for the voiceless in our society,” he said.
