Paris Saint-Germain tamed Liverpool with a 2-0 victory at Parc De Princes in the first leg of the quarter-finals, while ten-man Barcelona fell 2-0 to Atletico Madrid. The current holders, Paris Saint-Germain, beat Liverpool 2-0.

Controlling the game, the hosts quickly broke the deadlock in just 11 minutes when a shot from Desire Doue deflected off Ryan Gravenberch, giving the French side the lead.

After an intense first 45 minutes, PSG doubled the lead with another one from Khvicha Kvaratshelia from an excellent pass from Joao Neves as the Georgian moved past a couple of Liverpool players to place a perfect shot.

Luis Enrique’s side had numerous chances, with Ousmane Dembélé creating more than three clear-cut opportunities.

A penalty chance after a challenge by Ibrahima Konaté on Warren Zaïre-Emery was overturned after review, while Nuno Mendes and Achraf Hakimi also came close to extending the lead.

PSG were a class above with outstanding performances from Zaire-Emery, Joao Neves, Vitinha and Doue.

The Reds struggled throughout the game to create more chances or match the high intensity of the opposition.

Meanwhile in Barcelona, Atletico secured a 2-0 victory over Barca to take control of their quarter-final tie.

The tough fixture for both sides saw the home side suffer a huge blow early as Pau Cubarsi was sent off after an awful challenge on Guailaino Simeone.

Atletico capitalised and opened the scoring with an amazing direct free kick from Julian Alvarez from 20 yards out, beating Joan Garcia.

After the break, Barcelona created several chances but were stopped by Juan Musso, who denied Marcus Rashford, Gavi and Fermin.

In the 70th minute, Alexander Sorloth made it 2-0 with a fine finish after good build-up play involving Griezmann and Matteo Ruggeri.

Next week, Barcelona travels to Madrid to face Atletico in the second leg at the Metropolitano.

Hansi Flick’s loss follows Barcelona’s 7-2 victory against Newcastle and their recent 2-1 derby win against Atletico in LaLiga.
