Hours after terrorists paraded kidnapped Woro victims, bandits invaded the Nuku community in the Kaiama council area of Kwara, where they killed five forest guards and kidnapped two others.

The Nuku community is about two kilometres away from Woro, where terrorists killed over 200 people and kidnapped 176 others in February.

In footage seen by the Peoples Gazette on Friday, five dead forest guards were on the ground amid heavy blood, suggesting they were gruesomely murdered.

A resident, who spoke to The Gazette on the condition of anonymity, said the assailants stormed the community around 3:00 a.m. on Friday and started shooting sporadically.

“The killers entered the community around 3:00 a.m., and we could hear the sounds of guns. The scene showed that the forest guards, in an attempt to repel the attackers, were overpowered,” the resident said.

He noted that he was at the scene this morning to video the situation, adding that the security operatives stationed at the community ran away.

“Five forest guards were killed. The security operatives ran away for safety. But, as it is now, two forest guards were kidnapped into the bush,” the resident stated.

The police spokesperson in Kwara, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said, “Honestly, I am not aware of the attack. But I’ll find out and get back to you as soon as possible.”

The latest killings and abductions add to the growing number of terrorist attacks in several Kwara communities, especially in Patigi, Edu, Ifelodun, Kaiama and others, raising concerns about a lack of proactive approaches by the government to curtail the trend.

On Wednesday, terrorists paraded scores of residents kidnapped in Woro in February and threatened to kill the captives if the government failed to do the needful. The development drew widespread criticism from Kwarans who accused Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of utter failure to protect lives and property in the state.

Rafiu Ajakaye, chief press secretary to the Kwara governor, did not immediately respond to The Gazette’s request for comment.
