Catholic diocese confirms death of Bishop Nworie

The statement said that funeral arrangements would be announced at a later date.

The Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki has announced the passing of its Bishop, Most Rev. Peter Nworie, at the age of 60.

The notification of his death is contained in a statement issued to journalists on Friday by the Vicar General, Rev. Fr. Donatus Chukwu, on behalf of the diocese.

The statement read, “I write to notify you that our beloved Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, Most Rev. Peter Nworie, has returned to the father’s house.”

The statement expressed profound sorrow while entrusting the late bishop to the mercy of God.

According to the statement, Mr Nworie was born on November 5, 1965, ordained a priest on July 3, 1993, and consecrated and installed as the third bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki on August 19, 2021.

The diocese called on priests, religious, and the Christian faithful to keep the late bishop in their prayers, alongside the entire diocesan family during the period of mourning.

It also stated that the funeral arrangements would be announced at a later date.
