Gov Radda signs executive order to curb thuggery in Katsina

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has signed an executive order aimed at tackling the rising wave of criminal activities, especially thuggery (Kauraye and Sara-suka) across the metropolis.
Signing the order on Tuesday, Mr Radda said that a mobile court has been set up for the immediate trial of defaulters.
The governor added that the signing of the executive order marked another decisive step in the state government’s renewed security efforts.
According to him, the state government had earlier set up a task force committee on the prevention of criminal activities and related offences, 2026.
He said the move was necessitated by growing concerns over insecurity and the urgent need to restore public safety.
Mr Radda noted that the task force committee would comprise representatives from key Nigerian security agencies as well as Hisbah and other relevant ministries.
He explained that the team had been mandated to identify, track, and dismantle criminal networks operating within the state, using intelligence-driven strategies.
According to him, the task force will also be responsible for seizing illegal weapons and other dangerous instruments used in perpetrating crimes while ensuring that suspects are promptly prosecuted through designated mobile courts.
He stressed that the initiative would significantly reduce delays in the justice system and enhance accountability.
He added that the task force would closely monitor identified crime hotspots and collaborate with community stakeholders, including traditional rulers and religious leaders, to prevent criminal activities at the grassroots level.
The governor emphasised that community engagement would play a critical role in sustaining peace and security.
He said the task force would be coordinated by the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs in partnership with the Nigeria Police, ensuring effective synergy among all stakeholders involved in the operation.
He highlighted the establishment of mobile courts as a key component of the executive order, noting that it would facilitate the speedy trial of offenders and serve as a deterrent to others.
The governor expressed optimism that the initiative would yield positive results, calling on members of the task force to discharge their duties with integrity and professionalism.
